In the May issue of the Friends of the Ridgeway newsletter, the Friends’ Swire Ridgeway Arts Prize and Exhibition takes pride of place. There was a record attendance for the 10th exhibition, held in April in Uffington, with 121 wonderful artworks on show. We look at the winners and provide a link to see all the exhibits. Our new President, Matthew Barber, enthuses about the Ridgeway, its environs and its history. You can also find out more on the history of the trail by following our link to videos of talks on the Ridgeway National Trail YouTube page. In the first of a series of ‘then and now’ photos we show how well the surface of the Trail in Oxfordshire and part of West Berkshire has recovered from its quagmire days, thanks to protection provided by the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act (2006). We look at the new edition of ‘Walking the Ridgeway’ by Steve Davison. Professor Sir Muir Gray explains why ‘Rambling is the Elixir of Life’ and how even just 10 minutes a day of brisk walking can make a big difference to your health.
