Our February newsletter commences with the beautiful book ‘Downland’ by artist Anna Dillon and poet Jonathan Davidson. We look at how Scutchamer Knob, an Iron Age round barrow adjacent to the Ridgeway, is currently in receipt of lots of tender loving care from volunteers, many of them local, who are removing the brush that is obscuring this Ancient Monument. Archaeologist Dan Bashford tells us why this monument is so interesting. The Ramblers are keen for the Government to introduce an Access to Nature bill. We look at how this could benefit users of the Ridgeway. The Friends of the Ridgeway are champions of the Great Chalk Way (GCW), a series of trails, of which the Ridgeway is one, from the Norfolk to Dorset coasts. Two GCW information boards have recently been installed. If you don’t know what LiDAR is, and how it is being used by archaeologists in the Ridgeway corridor, there’s an article in the newsletter for you.
